dodrio made for a convenient mount due to her ability to traverse rough terrain without issue. her lengthy strides allowed for cait to travel from mauville to the tail end of route one-hundred and eleven within the span of a few hours, even.

"let's stop for a short while, girl."

they slowed to a halt before a small lake, the pokemon immediately dipping her multiple beaks into its clear waters to enjoy a cool drink. cait dismounted and allowed her pokemon a well-deserved rest as she took stock of her immediate surroundings. everything made for a familiar sight, the young woman having been here several times over within the past month.

'i'm half-tempted to take a nap.'

but she decided against throwing caution into the wind in favor of watching out for any trouble that might come their way, having already seated herself at the water's edge while she did so.

barbaracle made for a curious breed of pokemon - their particular typing as well as their distinct appearance having the tendency to turn heads.

'it makes sense why it'd be so close to the water.'

she observed the creature from a relatively safe distance, a curious gleam within her eye. it either hadn't noticed her or was overwhelmingly apathetic toward her and her flying-type counterpart's presence as it carried on.

"strange looking pokemon," cait remarked. "almost as strange as you, dodrio."

the pokemon released an indignant squawk.

despite being the ~~proud~~ owner of a handful of ghost-types cait was still very much uncomfortable around the wild variant. their reputation was less than pleasant, the creatures having a tendency to either hunt or greedily harvest the souls of the living. thankfully, what appeared to be a lampent maintained its distance as it hovered by.

'i'm surprised it's out and about in the middle of the day.'

she considered ghost-types to be dwellers of the night.

'pumpkaboo and phantump don't mind moving around in the middle of the day, though.'

cait tugged her gaze away from the wild pokemon to eye her dodrio.

"ready to start heading back home, girls? we've got a long trip ahead of us."
